Pretty in Green

Each year, the lady that lives here puts different kinds of metals in the soil and these flowers become different colors.  It is always exciting to see what color she chose for this year.  Unique!

  1. Hello Paulie,
I looked at the photos on your last few posts. All very good examples of plants and seeds. I like your little bits of Autumn. We're still having some very warm days but the nights are cooler so the mornings are nice.

  2. It's cool that she has so much control over the colors of the hydrangea.

  3. Really, metals can change the color of hydrangea flowers? I like green, wondering how to change my pink color to green.

  4. I think it only works with hydrangeas. I wonder why.

  5. Putting metals in the soil? Hm - it certainly works, but I only hope we are talking about traces :-)

  7. I like when a certain metal compound is added to make the hydrangea flowers blue. I've never attempted it myself - maybe this year. I too would like to know what makes the green colour.

  8. It is interesting how hydrangea changes color depending on the soil.
You are right about the reflection, there is a bench as well as the houses in the distance. It is amazing how Father Serra walked all over California, that was the way of his order and he stuck to it.

  9. I never realized this, Paulie. That metals influenced bloom color. I'm glad you've met a walking friend - sometimes I ramble alone, but I do love the company of a friend. Thinking of you.
